Respite care
Respite care gives carers and the person receiving support time, flexibility and a change of routine. It may be provided at home, in the community, overnight or through planned short breaks, depending on individual needs and available services.
What to include in a request
Share your suburb or postcode, the help you need, your preferred timing and any access, communication or cultural preferences. You do not need to share more personal information than is necessary to start a conversation.
Questions to ask
Explain the type of break needed, dates, routines, support needs, communication preferences and any trial or introduction process that would help the person feel comfortable. Ask about staffing, overnight arrangements, transport, fees and cancellation terms.
Take your time choosing
A provider should explain their services, costs and next steps clearly. Compare options where possible and ask for information in a format you can understand.
