For families and carers
A practical guide to finding support
Finding support can feel overwhelming, especially when needs change quickly. You do not need to know every service name before asking for help.
Start with what matters day to day
Think about the tasks, goals or situations that are hardest right now. It might be personal care, transport, therapy, company, safety at home or a break for a carer.
Write down your preferences
Consider location, language, worker gender, cultural preferences, appointment times, accessibility and how you prefer a provider to communicate.
Ask for plain answers
A suitable provider should be able to explain their services, costs, availability, staff arrangements and next steps without making you feel rushed.
You can change your mind
A support request does not lock you into a provider. Take time to compare options and ask for help if something does not feel clear.
