Finding culturally appropriate support
Culturally appropriate support respects a person’s language, identity, beliefs, family relationships and communication style. Asking early about preferences can help find a provider who is a better fit.
Include the right information
Include language needs, interpreter preferences, cultural or faith considerations, community connections, gender preferences and any communication supports that matter. Ask providers how they will make services inclusive and respectful.
Privacy and choice
Share only information needed to start a conversation. The person receiving support should remain at the centre of the decision, including who is contacted and how.
